FAQs

1. What issues do you specialise in treating?

I work with many different issues including but not limited to, those struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, stress, trauma, couples therapy, teens, self-exploration, bereavement and anger management.

2. What can I expect during the first session?

In our first session, we'll take time to explore your background, current situation, and what has brought you to therapy. We'll also begin to clarify the goals you'd like to work toward.

3. How long are sessions and how often will we meet?

Sessions are between 50-60 minutes and are usually weekly with the progression to fortnightly then monthly if necessary.

4. Do you offer in-person or online therapy?

I offer both in person and online therapy. In person at my office The Base, Chamberlain Road, Hull, HU8 8HL however the office is currently undergoing some work at the moment but will available for clients from September 2025. I also offer ‘Walk & Talk’ therapy taking a route situated nearby as near pedestrian tracks as well as East Park both options away from busy roads.

For our online sessions I use Zoom, and send invite links out via email before the session for you to click and join. These online sessions are held in a confidential space on my end and you can choose where you feel comfortable on your end.

5. What are your fees? Do you accept insurance?

Please see our services page for fees depending on the service selected. Payment is required in advance to secure the session slot and to cover any cancellations outside of the cancellation policy. A payment link will be provided once a date and time has been agreed in the first instance, after which payment is continued to be made either through the payment link or via cash but always in advance of the next session.

I do not accept insurance providers at this time.

6. How do I schedule an appointment?

Please fill out and complete our contact form with your details and if you could include your availability, I will reach out within 48 hours to arrange an appointment or intro call.

7. What is your cancellation policy?

I require 48 hours notice to cancel the appointment else the session remains chargeable. If you cancel within the notice period the session charge will rollover to your next session if you are continuing or refunded if no more sessions are required.

8. Is therapy confidential?

Psychotherapists in the UK are bound by professional, legal, and ethical duties to maintain client confidentiality. The main points include:

  1. Core Principle:
All client information is kept confidential and only used for therapeutic purposes.

  2. Exceptions to Confidentiality:

    • If there is risk of serious harm to the client or others.

    • In cases involving child protection or safeguarding vulnerable adults.

    • When required by law or court order.

    • With the client’s informed consent.

  3. Supervision:
Therapists discuss cases with clinical supervisors to ensure best practice, but identifying details are kept anonymous.

  4. Data Protection:
Therapists must comply with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, ensuring secure storage and handling of personal data.

  5. Disclosure Process:
When disclosure is necessary, therapists aim to:

    • Inform the client where possible.

    • Disclose only what is necessary.

    • Act in line with ethical codes (e.g. BACP, UKCP).

9. How long will therapy take?

The length of therapy can vary significantly depending on several factors, including:

1. Your Goals

  • Short-term (e.g., coping with a specific issue like a breakup, work stress): 6–12 sessions (a few months).

  • Medium-term (e.g., changing patterns of behaviour, managing anxiety or depression): 3–12 months.

  • Long-term (e.g., deep-rooted trauma, personality disorders, identity work): 1+ years, sometimes ongoing.

2. Frequency

Most people start with weekly sessions. Some switch to biweekly or monthly as they progress.

4. Progress and Life Events

Progress isn't always linear. A crisis or major life change can extend the process, even after periods of stability.

10. Are you licensed? What are your credentials?

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP, Registration No. 398967) and hold a diploma that qualifies me to practise as a psychotherapist.

11. Do you work with children/teens/families?

Yes, however I do not work with children of Primary School age at this time.

12. Do you offer LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy?

Although I do not specifically offer affirmative therapy, I do however refer to myself as an Integrative Therapist and pull from many different models and styles of therapy to provide the best suited therapy for my client. My style and approach is that of warmth, affirming and empowerment, therefore my practice is very welcoming, open and accepting of the LGBTQ+ community and here to support the community through any emotional conflicts or exploration.

13. Do you provide crisis or emergency services?

Moxie Therapies is not a crisis or emergency service - please see our signposting page for where you can find support when you are in crisis.

14. Can I contact you between sessions?

You can contact me via email between sessions if you need to reschedule or cancel your session. You can also contact me to inform me of anything you would like me to know ahead of our session.

15. What therapeutic approaches do you use?

As an integrative therapist, I tailor therapy to you as a whole person—rather than strictly following one theoretical model. I draw from a range of approaches, such as person-centred, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioural therapies, depending on what best supports your unique experiences, challenges, and goals.

This flexibility allows us to work together in a way that feels most helpful, respectful, and effective for you.

16. Can I switch therapists if I don’t feel it’s a good fit?

Yes, absolutely. A strong therapeutic relationship is key to meaningful progress, and it’s important that you feel comfortable and supported. If at any point you feel that we’re not the right fit, you are welcome to explore other options—there’s no pressure or judgment. I’ll also be happy to help guide you toward finding someone who might be better suited to your needs.
